AINZAMKAIT – FLUCH DES NACHZEHRERS

Release Date: 21 March via PURITY THROUGH FIRE - In late 2024, AINZAMKAIT made a striking debut with Was des Lebens nicht Wert, the project of multi-instrumentalist Grymnir der Zornige. The name AINZAMKAIT itself is a linguistic twist on the German word Einsamkeit-loneliness-and that sense of isolation shaped the record’s entire atmosphere. Dark, sinister, and deeply rooted in the traditions of Teutonic black metal. With "Fluch des Nachzehrers", AINZAMKAIT returns from the shadows to prove that the project’s 2024 debut was not just a passing spark. At first glance, the sophomore release stands firmly on the same bleak and frostbitten foundation laid by "Was des Lebens nicht Wert": raw atmosphere, grim intensity, and a sound deep in the spirit of Teutonic black metal. Whether the new record simply follows that path or pushes the project deeper into its dark vision is something this review will uncover.

Ainzamkait’s sound is firmly rooted in the traditions of second-wave black metal, drawing clear inspiration from genre-defining acts such as DARKTHRONE, EMPEROR, SATYRICON, GORGOROTH, and ENSLAVED. That lineage becomes immediately apparent with the opening track, 'Blutrausch'. The song establishes a cold, hostile atmosphere from the outset, its soundscape carrying a sense of looming tension. As the track unfolds, additional layers gradually emerge: a fitting melodic riff begins to take shape, the bass grows thicker and more present, and the drums-while largely operating in the background-add a steady and effective foundation to the composition. The vocals arrive abruptly-harsh, cold, and without warning. Raspy, aggressive screams cut through the icy soundscape, perfectly matching the track’s dark and unforgiving atmosphere. Next comes the title track, 'Fluch des Nachzehrers', which opens with a distorted yet strangely hypnotic guitar riff that pulls the listener in almost unnoticed. As the song unfolds, the screams and throaty vocals grow increasingly strained and anguished. All the while, a massively driving wall of sound pushes the track forward, with carefully placed melodic elements adding depth to the otherwise relentless assault. 'Blut’ges Morgentau'(singer of SARKRISTA/ORDER OF NOSFERAT) features guest vocals from Revenant, whose aggressive and contemptuous delivery proves to be a strong asset to the track. In the background, faint choir elements slowly emerge, accompanied by cymbal-focused drumming that adds texture to the composition. Subtle melodic and ambient passages appear throughout the song, further enhancing the overall songwriting and atmosphere.

'Pestritter' opens with the galloping sound of running horses, a fitting ambient detail that immediately sets the scene. The vocals spit with hatred and disgust, yet remain surprisingly clear, giving the lyrics a dark and sinister beauty. Instrumentally, the track balances aggression with atmosphere, most notably in a quieter middle section where a clean guitar riff-enhanced by a subtle delay effect—adds depth to the composition. The quiet, chorus-driven riff that appears at the beginning and again in the middle of 'Was bleibt ist Einsamkeit' feels like a clear musical reflection of the song’s title. Its soft and restrained character perfectly conveys a sense of isolation, capturing the feeling of "Einsamkeit" or "Loneliness" with precision. Moments like this show how much thought has gone into the songwriting throughout "Fluch des Nachzehrers". The album concludes with 'Solange dein Herz schlägt'. A distant heartbeat slowly emerges from the silence, accompanied by ethereal synth textures and restrained, clean guitar lines. The atmosphere feels reflective and almost meditative, inviting the listener to slow down and absorb the moment. As the piece unfolds, the heartbeat that guided the opening returns once more-steady, fragile-until it finally fades away, leaving nothing behind but silence.

‍

With "Fluch des Nachzehrers", AINZAMKAIT delivers a compelling continuation of the path laid out on their debut. Rooted deeply in the spirit of second-wave black metal, the album combines cold atmosphere, thoughtful songwriting, and moments of subtle melodic depth. Rather than relying solely on raw aggression, the record allows space for tension, mood, and carefully crafted details-proving that Ainzamkait is a project with vision and depth.
